Climate Finance Solutions for SNIJs Webinar
From Island Innovation

The 1st Forum on Climate Finance for Sub-National Island Jurisdictions (SNIJs) has resulted in the creation of the Sub-National Island Jurisdiction Climate Coalition (SNIJCC), a groundbreaking initiative that represents a dedicated platform addressing the critical gap in global climate action for Sub-National Island Jurisdictions worldwide.
The Coalition provides a framework for ongoing partnership and advocacy, recognising the diverse needs of different jurisdiction types, including:
- Mitigation-focused SNIJs from developed regions
- Adaptation-focused SNIJs facing immediate climate impacts
- Climate-funding eligible SNIJs requiring support for transition
Learn more about the Coalition and the next steps at the webinar we will be hosting on July 16th at 8:00 PM New York time / July 17th, 11:00 AM New Caledonia time.

Attendees of the 1st Forum on Climate Finance for Sub-National Island Jurisdictions & Overseas Territories, in Nevis

The press conference announcing the SNIJ Climate Coalition at UNOC3 (Nice, France), in partnership with the Government of Curaçao, the Special Envoy for Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius, and the Nevis Island Administration
Sub-National Island Jurisdictions (SNIJs) are non-sovereign, populated island territories that possess some degree of self-governance within a larger state. Despite being on the frontlines of climate change, they often face major barriers in accessing international climate finance.
Many are ineligible for multilateral funding due to non-sovereign status, and limited administrative capacity makes navigating complex application processes especially difficult.
To bridge this climate finance gap, public-private partnerships offer a promising path forward. This webinar will, therefore, bring together climate finance experts, development institutions, and private sector actors to explore collaborative funding models that can unlock resources for SNIJs.

It will highlight opportunities to blend public and private finance, streamline access to funding, and develop innovative financial instruments tailored to the needs of island jurisdictions. Participants will gain insights into emerging mechanisms, case studies, and pathways to scale finance for adaptation, resilience, and the transition to low-carbon economies. Join us today!
