CIS-High School Quad
Cayman International School (CIS) has opened applications for its Caymanian Citizenship Scholarship Programme for the 2026–2027 academic year. The programme offers full and partial scholarships to eligible Caymanian students entering Grades 9, 10 or 11, with applications due by 13 February 2026.
The scholarship reflects CIS’s ongoing commitment to supporting Caymanian students through increased access to high-quality education. In keeping with the school’s mission to Connect, Inspire and Serve, the programme is designed to open pathways for motivated learners while strengthening the school’s connection to the wider Cayman community.
Jim Urquhart, Director of CIS said of the programme, “We offer this scholarship because we believe Caymanian students should have access to the full range of opportunities available at CIS. It allows us to support families, widen access and ensure that talented local students can benefit from the learning environment and values that shape our school.”
Eligible applicants must be Caymanian of parents born in the Cayman Islands or another Caribbean country or territory and demonstrate English proficiency. Additional merits such as character, leadership, scholastic achievement and community involvement also play a role in selection.
Scholarships are awarded for a minimum of two years and up to a maximum of four, beginning as early as Grade 9. All scholarship students are required to participate in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) during Grades 11 and 12, ensuring they gain the academic preparation and critical thinking skills that the programme fosters.
Urquhart added: “The IB Diploma Programme is an exceptional framework for developing independent thinkers and responsible young adults. It challenges students to analyse, question, collaborate and lead. These skills prepare them not only for university, but for meaningful contribution in Cayman and wherever their futures take them.”
Recipients are expected to uphold the standards of the CIS community by maintaining at least a ‘B’ average, taking part in a minimum of two school teams, clubs or activities each year, and modelling the CIS Mission and Community Principles in their daily interactions. These principles, kindness, partnership, sustainability and good intent, support a school culture grounded in mutual respect, collaboration and long-term wellbeing.
In addition, scholarship students contribute to the broader school community by supporting CIS events and initiatives throughout the year.
Applications for the Caymanian Citizenship Scholarship Programme are now open. Limited placements are available, and all applications must be submitted by 13 February 2026. Families can view eligibility criteria and apply atwww.cis.ky/admissions/apply.
