CIBC: Let’s wrap up summer scam-free (part 2)

Fraud is never on vacation. Stay ahead.

  • Verify charities: Donating to a charity? Research the organisation to ensure legitimacy, especially during disaster relief efforts.
  • Secure your mail: Going on vacation? Arrange for your mail to be held or collected by a trusted person, to prevent sensitive information from being stolen.
  • Check ATM safety: When using ATMs, choose well-lit, secure locations. Check for any signs of tampering or skimming devices. When entering your PIN or withdrawing cash, be aware of your surroundings and ATM shoulder surfers.
  • Educate yourself & others: Stay informed about common fraud schemes and educate family members, especially older adults and children, about how to avoid them
  • Be wary of employment scams: Verify that the employer is legitimate and be wary of instructions asking you to accept transfers to purchase items, or make transfers
  • Beware of third parties: Do not allow a third party to receive transfers via your account, to then withdraw the funds on the party’s behalf
By staying vigilant and taking these precautions, you can enjoy
a safer summer with less risk of falling victim to.
