CIAA Monitoring Tropical Storm Melissa in Collaboration with National Agencies

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands — 24 October 2025

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Melissa, which forecasters predict may strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Cayman Islands.

The CIAA is actively coordinating preparedness efforts with the Cayman Islands Government’s Meteorological Service and Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI) to ensure the continued safety and resilience of airport operations at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) and Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA).

“At this time, both of our airports remain fully operational, and our teams are following established hurricane preparedness protocols,” said Albert Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of the Cayman Islands Airports Authority. “We are taking all necessary precautions to safeguard our staff, facilities, and airport users while maintaining readiness to respond as conditions evolve.”

The CIAA will continue to share updates and any information on local airport closures as necessary through its official communication channels. The travelling public is encouraged to remain informed through credible sources, including official Government weather advisories and their respective airlines regarding flight status.
