Cayman UPDATE: Two Persons Arrested in Relation to Rental Scams

From RCIPS

Investigations continue into ongoing property rental scams involving fraudulent rental properties being advertised on social media and classifieds websites. Three men, ages 64 and 21 of Bodden Town, and 28 of George Town, have been arrested on suspicion of obtaining property by deception, on 14 and 28 May and today, 2 June, respectively.

The RCIPS continues to urge the public to exercise caution if you see an offer that appears too good to be true, and avoid sending any money in relation to property rentals without first verifying the legitimacy of the offer. The public should be especially wary of “viewing deposits” where you are asked to pay before being allowed to view a property.

Anyone who believes they may have been affected is strongly encouraged to report the matter to the police by contacting the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
