Cayman takes big win in LIME Nations Cup
With a commanding performance that has thrown down the gauntlet to all the teams, Cayman’s youthful team and defending champions, participating in the LIME Cayman Nations Cup delivered an outstanding performance. Batting first in the final league encounter of this tournament against a depleted British & Irish Lions, Cayman showed no mercy and scored 169 for five with fifties from Zachary McLaughlin and Omar Willis. Having scored 63 runs in the first 10 overs, the Cayman team turned up the pressure and amassed 106 runs in the next 10 overs. First McLaughlin and then a masterpiece from Omar Willis, aided by Ronald Ebanks 21, pushed the total to a defendable 169.
Cayman’s bowlers were impressive and the British & Irish Lions had no answer; their main contributors were Derek Randall 27, Richard Thomas 17 and Chris Smith 15. Cayman won by 79 runs. Omar Willis was named Man of the Match.
Jamaica also had an impressive display, defeating India by 10 wickets. Batting first, India totaled 113 for five in 19 overs. Playing in his first match, Kenute Tulloch produced an extraordinary first delivery to take the wicket of India star batsman Rocky for no score. Larry 45, Jay 30 and Mani 20 batted bravely for India. Corey Cato took three wickets. In turn, Deno McInnis 58n.o, with four fours and four sixes, and Milton Johnson 34n.o gave Jamaica a convincing victory. Deno McInnis was named Man of the Match.
Only the Super Over could separate Greenies and Islanders over at the John A Cumber Primary School ground in the LIME Women’s 8-a-Side tournament. Having each scored 88 runs after the allotted 15 overs, Greenies held their nerve to defeat Islanders. Batting first in the Super Over, Islanders scored six runs and lost two wickets before Greenies got to seven runs and the victory.
