Cayman Regiment Ends Sanitation Operations in West Bay

The Cayman Islands Regiment will cease sanitation operations at two farms in the West Bay area, Grand Cayman, this evening, 8 December.

Precautionary sanitation operations were initiated as part of enhanced biosecurity measures following the confirmation of H5N1 avian flu virus at a farm in West Bay late last month. The Regiment will continue operations at this location.

Farms within the 500-meter radius of the affected farm will be provided with information and equipment by the Department of Agriculture (DoA) to undertake their own standard biosecurity measures on properties starting tomorrow, Tuesday, 9 December. This will include instructions on foot baths outside of coops as well as personal hygiene methods. The DoA will also work with other farms across Grand Cayman, in particular those that have a focus on poultry, to ensure they are implementing the recommended biosecurity measures to protect their animals and crops respectively.

Residents who have questions or concerns can contact the Department of Agriculture at 916-7146, 947-3090 (press 0).
