Cayman: Applications for Backyard Garden Programme Have Closed

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands — [8th August 2025]— The Ministry of Planning, Lands,Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure (PLAHI) is pleased to announce the official closure of applications for the Backyard Garden Programme Pilot Initiative — a new, community-driven effort aimed at increasing household-level food security and sustainable gardening across the Cayman Islands.
This pilot initiative, delivered in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, offers participating households free Grow Boxes, soil, seeds, and basic guidance to support the start of their own home gardens. The programme welcomed applications from a wide range of Caymanians and Permanent Residents, including retirees, families, urban dwellers, and sustainability-minded youth.
We are thrilled with the overwhelming public response, which highlights a strong appetite for accessible and sustainable agricultural initiatives. All applicants will be contacted in the coming weeks regarding the next steps in the programme.
Those who were unable to apply or are not selected during this round are encouraged to stay engaged — this is only the beginning. We look forward to expanding the programme in the future and continuing our mission to build a more food-resilient Cayman.
We thank the public for their enthusiastic participation and commitment to sustainable living.
