With only two Saturdays remaining in the 2025 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) regular seasons, points from wins and draws are slowly gaining importance in the standings for a number of schools.
Headlining Saturday’s exciting line-up of games was the potentially high-charged Under 11 Group B battle between Prospect Primary and Cayman International School (CIS) 11 Blue. The game itself was a testament to the competitiveness that primary school football is known for and for those in attendance, it was an ‘edge of the seat’ experience.
With two contrasting game plans – a strategic and methodical build-up from the back for CIS and quick-fire through balls for speedy attackers for Prospect Primary – the game was a fast-paced encounter.
Prospect Primary’s Ezray Webster opened the scoring in the 12th minute much to the delight of the home fans. Conceding the early goal seemed to inject a needed level of pace for the disciplined CIS outfit as they ‘ramped-up’ their attack. A number of shots rained down on either goalkeeper and the crossbar rattled on more than one occasion, but both shot-stoppers stood their ground.
With time running out, a quick burst from the CIS left-winger found space down the left flank and as he reached the byline, a wonderful pass inside the box found Jack Henderson all alone to slot home the equaliser in the 50th minute. Prospect Primary’s players were devastated but in fairness to both schools, a 1-1 draw was a fair result.
In other Group B games in the Under 11 division, defending champions Cayman Prep 11A continued their winning ways with a 4-0 win over NorthEast Schools (respect rule enforced), First Baptist CS downed Footsteps School 5-2 and Red Bay Primary drew 0-0 with Cayman Brac.
In the Under 9 division in Group B, Prospect Primary beat Sir John A. Cumber 9B 4-0 (respect rule enforced), Cayman Prep 9A got past Island Primary 9B 4-0 (respect rule enforced) and Footsteps School defeated First Baptist CS 4-0 (respect rule enforced).
In Group A Under 9 play, Island Primary 9A beat Cayman Prep 9B 3-0, CIS 9 White downed Joanna Clarke Primary 3-1 and Sir John A. Cumber Primary 9A got past St. Ignatius Catholic 2-1.
In the Under 11 division in Group A, Cayman Prep 11B beat Island Primary 3-1, Joanna Clarke Primary outlasted CIS 11 White 2-0, St. Ignatius Catholic downed Sir John A. Cumber Primary 3-0 and Marie Martin Primary defeated Theoline L. McCoy Primary 4-0 (respect rule enforced).
In the CUC GPFL, in Group A, Joanna Clarke Primary beat CIS Girls White 2-0 and Sir John A. Cumber Primary got past St. Ignatius Catholic 3-0
In the only Group B girl’s game, the young ladies from Cayman Prep GA and NorthEast School settled for a 0-0 draw.
