Cayman: Police Warn of Fraudulent “Dormant Account” Text Messages Circulating,

Police are aware of fraudulent text messages circulating which claim to be from a local financial institution. The message states that the recipient’s account is “dormant” and encourages them to click a link to reactivate the account.
The link leads to a fake website which is being used to collect the sensitive banking information of unsuspecting persons.
In similar scams, persons have entered their personal banking information on fake websites, allowing criminals access to their accounts.
RCIPS reminds the public to take the following precautions:
* Do not click on links in unsolicited text messages or emails claiming to be from financial institutions.
* Do not enter banking or personal information on websites accessed through unknown links.
* Contact your bank directly using their official phone number or website if you receive a suspicious message.
* Report suspicious messages to your financial institution and the Police.
The matter is currently under police investigation.
