Thirteen Caymanians Commence CBC Recruit Training Programme

Grand Cayman, 11 March 2026 -The Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control Service
(CBC) officially welcomed a new cohort of thirteen (13) recruits as they commenced their recruit
training programme on Monday, 2 March 2026.

The recruits have embarked on a comprehensive training course designed to equip them with the
knowledge, skills, and professional standards required to safeguard the borders of the Cayman
Islands. Over the coming months, they will undergo rigorous instruction in border security
operations, customs enforcement, immigration procedures, law enforcement fundamentals,
ethics, and customer service.

This structured training programme reflects CBC’s continued commitment to strengthening
national security, protecting our borders, and delivering high-quality service to the public. In
addition to classroom-based learning, recruits will participate in physical fitness training,
scenario-based exercises, and practical field experience to ensure they are fully operationally
ready upon graduation.

Persons in attendance at the opening ceremony included Minister for District Administration and
Home Affairs, Hon. Nickolas DaCosta, JP, MP, Chief Officer Michael Ebanks; Deputy Chief
Officer Debbie-Ann Whittaker; Acting Director of CBC Marlon Bodden; and other senior
representatives from the Ministry and CBC.

Welcoming the new class, Acting Director of CBC, Marlon Bodden, said, “Today marks the
beginning of an important journey for these recruits. Their decision to serve represents a
commitment to protecting our islands and upholding the laws that keep our communities safe.
We are proud to support them through this training and look forward to seeing them grow into
professional officers who embody the values of integrity, accountability, and service.”

Chief Officer Michael Ebanks noted that the programme is designed to build capability and
confidence from day one. “Recruit training is where standards are set and culture is shaped,” he
said. “This cohort is stepping into a role that demands professionalism, sound judgement, and
consistency. By investing in structured training and strong mentorship, we are preparing officers
who can serve the public with integrity while protecting the Cayman Islands’ borders.”

Hon. Nickolas DaCosta, JP, MP, Minister for District Administration and Home Affairs,
welcomed the recruits and underscored the national importance of their commitment. “Choosing
to serve with CBC is choosing to stand on the front line of national security,” he said. “We are
delivering now and preparing for tomorrow by equipping our people with the training,
discipline, and support they need to meet evolving challenges. I congratulate this cohort on
taking this step, and I encourage them to carry forward the values of integrity, accountability,
and service in everything they do.”

Throughout the training period, recruits will be continuously assessed to ensure they meet CBC’s
high standards of professionalism and operational competence. Upon successful completion, they
will be deployed across key operational areas to support border protection efforts across the
Service’s various departments.
