Update on Octavia

With heavy hearts, we share the news that after a fierce fight for her life, our beloved Octavia has passed away.

Over the past several days, we have witnessed something extraordinary. In a moment of deep crisis, our community came together in a way that words can hardly capture.

Through the GoFundMe campaign alone, more than US$225,000 was raised in just a few days. Even more moving than the amount was the heart behind it. Many who gave had never even met Octavia. Yet they gave generously, prayed faithfully, and stood with her family in their darkest hour. We are overwhelmed with gratitude.

To the friends, coworkers, customers, and complete strangers who donated—from those who gave $10 to those who gave $10,000—please know that your kindness has deeply touched us. To those who prayed, sent messages of encouragement, brought meals, provided transportation, cared for the children, and simply showed up for the family—you carried them when they could not carry themselves.

Octavia was deeply loved by her coworkers at Polar Bear & Appliance Doctors, by her church family, by her friends at the Rugby Club, and by many of our customers across the island.

Seeing the Cayman community rally around her and her family has been one of the most powerful displays of compassion we have ever witnessed.

The funds raised will now be used to help cover Octavia’s funeral and repatriation costs, provide immediate care for her surviving children, and support their future needs, including education — a tribute that would truly honor Octavia’s memory and the love she had for her family.

We understand that some donors may prefer a refund. If you wish to request one, you may do so with this link: https://support.gofundme.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new?ticket_form_id=4946054697115

Right now, our hearts are broken. But we are also profoundly grateful.

This week, Cayman showed what community truly means. You showed that kindness is alive. That compassion still moves people to action. And that when one of us suffers, many rise up to help.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you.

Please continue to keep Octavia’s children, family, and loved ones in your prayers in the days ahead.

With deep gratitude and sorrow,

Your Polar Bear Family
