Top of the table clashes highlight Week 8 in the CUC PFL

With schools jostling for the top four spots and the chance to play Champions Cup football during the playoffs, week 8 in the 2025 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) regular seasons provided plenty of action as first, second and third placed schools clashed for supremacy.
In the Group A Under 9 division, undefeated leaders Island Primary 9A were idle this week but have secured top spot in the group with one game remaining while St. Ignatius Catholic secured second spot in the group with a 1-0 victory over Joanna Clarke Primary. Sir John A. Cumber 9A’s 2-0 victory over Marie Martin Primary secures a top four spot while Cayman Prep 9B and CIS 9 White, who were both idle this past week, both have the opportunity to finish in the top four with one game remaining.
In the Under 11 division in Group A, 2024 Consolation Cup champions Marie Martin Primary have remained perfect in 2025 after downing Sir John A. Cumber Primary 2-1 this past Saturday. St. Ignatius Catholic got past Joanna Clarke Primary 4-2, Island Primary beat Theoline L. McCoy Primary 4-0 (respect rule) and CIS 11 White beat Grace Christian Academy 4-0 (respect rule) to keep all their hopes alive of finishing in the top four.
In Group B Under 9 play, Cayman Prep 9A, Prospect Primary, Red Bay Primary and Footsteps School secured their spots in the Under 9 Champions Cup following favourable results on Saturday. Cayman Prep 9A finished top of Group A undefeated after downing Prospect Primary 3-0, Red Bay Primary got past Sir John A. Cumber 9B 4-0 (respect rule) and Island Primary 9B beat First Baptist CS 5-1 (respect rule). Footsteps School were idle but their 12 points from 6 games secures third spot in the group and in spite of their loss, Prospect Primary finish runners-up with 15 points from 6 games.
Red Bay Primary round off the top four that will contest for the Under 9 Champions Cup.
In Group B Under 11 play, defending champions Cayman Prep 11A, First Baptist CS, Prospect Primary, CIS 11 Blue and Red Bay Primary are best suited for a top four finish with one game to play. Cayman Prep 11A found the going tough against Prospect Primary but eventually came out on top after a 2-0 win. First Baptist CS continued their fine form with a 4-1 win over NorthEast Schools, Red Bay Primary got past CIS 11 Blue 3-1 and Cayman Brac claimed their first win of the season with a 2-1 defeat of Footsteps School.
In the CUC GPFL, in Group A, the young ladies from Sir John A. Cumber secured top spot with a perfect record after downing Marie Martin Primary 4-0 (respect rule). In other scores, St. Ignatius Catholic and Joanna Clarke Primary drew 4-4.
With one game to go, St. Ignatius Catholic, Joanna Clarke Primary, CIS Girls White and Cayman Prep GB will be battling for the final three spots in Group A and the chance to compete in the CUC GPFL Champions Cup.
In the only Group B girl’s game, CIS Girls Blue downed Red Bay Primary 3-0. NorthEast Schools and Cayman Prep GA are guaranteed a top four finish while Island Primary, CIS Girls Blue and Red Bay Primary will contest for the final two spots and the chance to play in the Champions Cup.
Week 9 games on Saturday, November 22 mark the end of the regular season. The CUC PFL and GPFL playoffs begin on Saturday, November 29 (quarter- finals) and continue on Saturday, December 6 semi-finals) and end on Saturday, December 13 (finals and third-place games).
