UPDATE: Man Charged for Attempted Armed Robbery

The man, age 35 of West Bay, who police apprehended following an attempted armed robbery at a restaurant in Marquee Plaza on Lawrence Boulevard, on Saturday, 10 May, has been formally charged with Attempted Robbery, Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm (Ammunition), in relation to the incident.
He attended court on Wednesday, 21 May, and was remanded in custody, pending a further appearance on 30 May.
Initial Release (10 May):
At about 3:45AM today, 10 May, officers responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery at a restaurant in Marquee Plaza on Lawrence Boulevard. It was reported that a masked man, who appeared to be carrying a firearm, approached the business and was confronted by a security guard. A struggle between the two ensued, resulting in the masked man being injured. The masked man then fled the scene in a vehicle, leaving behind a loaded firearm, which police later recovered. No shots were fired and no other persons were injured during the incident.
Police subsequently located the masked man in the vehicle along Esterley Tibbetts Highway, and detained him until the arrival of EMS. He was transported to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries. The vehicle was recovered and searched, and officers recovered suspected ganja, ammunition and a knife.
The matter is currently under investigation by George Town CID.
