Summer Serenade’ 17 JUNE 2022

Cayman National Chor and Orchestra presents “Summer Serenade”

Cayman National Choir & Orchestra is tuning up for its not-to-be-missed June 17th Concert, 7.30pm, at the Harquail Theatre – “Summer Serenade” – Cool Music for a Warm Summer’s Evening.
Directed by Sue Horrocks & Jonathan Taylor, the CNCO will present a mix of musical genres across baroque, classical and lighter pieces, featuring a range of soloists from within the Choir and Orchestra and beyond. In particular the musicians of Cayman will be celebrated – their talent and commitment keeps the musical flame burning bright, and those who will be leaving this year will be highlighted.

Tickets $35/$12 and advance bar tickets are available at Eventpro.ky.

‘Summer Serenade’ will reach a high point for CNCO  – it will be the farewell finale concert for Jonathan Taylor, who is leaving Cayman to return to the UK. During the five years under his baton the Orchestra has expanded its membership, added a strong percussion section, brought in talented young players and excited concert audiences with the quality of the music. The Symphony Orchestra can now claim to be a leader in its field in the Caribbean.

Sue Horrocks, founder, 20 years ago of the Cayman National Orchestra said, “Jon’s musical talents, enthusiasm, energy and ability to communicate with his fellow musicians, led me to ask him to take up the mantle. He has led the Orchestra to new heights and entertained audiences who will remember his Mancunian ‘chats’ and love for the music of John Williams.”

Sarah Newman, the leader of the Orchestra said, “Jon has helped the Orchestra gain a professional sound through his rigorous rehearsal skills and contagious energy. He has always been encouraging, giving me, other Orchestra members and local students, the opportunity to perform solos and compositions.”

Dawn Eaton, president of the Cayman National Choir & Orchestra said, “While Jon will be greatly missed, we are eagerly recruiting for a new musical director who can continue to build on the Orchestra’s success and ensure an exciting future for our members and our community.”

The CNCO is also delighted to be celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, on June 2nd, performing at the Lighting of the Bonfire at Pedro St James.
