Disney+ recommendations to get stuck into

Since launching in the UK in March 2020, Disney+ has become a firm favourite among British households. The streaming platform offers a wide range of new and old content for the whole family to enjoy, including Star Wars, National Geographic, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as well as Marvel TV.

A recent study on the UK’s streaming habits by Smart-Pig, finance specialists providing loans to students, revealed Disney+ is the most cost-effective streaming service based on hourly viewing cost. The subscription was compared against online giants including Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime and Apple TV+ and came out on top at just 11p per hour of viewing time. Disney+ fans watch for an average of 1 hour, 48 minutes a day, making it the second most watched service behind Netflix. Disney+ offers concurrent streaming over up to four different devices, which could be the reason only 17% of viewers are footing the bill.

Here are some of the best movies and TV shows on Disney+ to get stuck into this autumn.

WandaVision

Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, WandaVision is a TV mini-series created by Marvel Studios, and blends Marvel’s usual style with the recreation of classic sitcoms. From the plot to the design and the costumes, no two episodes are the same and each one features its own unique twist. Even non-Marvel fans won’t be able to stop themselves from watching!

Classic animated Disney movies

If you enjoy a bit of nostalgia, you’ll love the wide variety of classic Disney movies available on Disney+. Sing along to “Hakuna Matata” while watching The Lion King, or drag out those rusty dance moves for a living room rendition of “I wanna be like you” from The Jungle Book. There’s even the entire Toy Story collection! It’ll be enough to keep you going for weeks or get comfy on the sofa and binge the lot in one go!

Up

When it comes to animated tear-jerkers, there’s no better film than Up. The plot follows an old man who’s still grieving for his wife after many years of living alone, and a young wilderness explorer. The unlikely pair end up on an adventure where they find new friendships and fulfilment. While it may be an animated film, it’s not just for kids and there’s something for everyone in this heart-warming story.

All the Marvel films

Disney+ hosts all the Marvel films, so you’ve got no excuse for not getting stuck in! Watch them in chronological order and enjoy the crazy plotlines and dramatic fight scenes. Marvel films are known for their wisecracking humour and comedic moments, so you’ll have a good laugh when you tune in. With action, comedy and even a touch of romance, every member of the family will be sure to enjoy the wide range of Marvel films available on Disney+.
