Washington DC is known for being many things; it’s the center of political activity in the country, home to some of the best museums anywhere, and so much more. In the past few years, it has become a true hub that attracts everyone from young professionals to growing families, and not just the usual DC operatives swarming Capitol Hill. The arts and cultural scene have flourished, and new restaurants, clubs, and bars have sprung up to make it a truly diverse and dynamic city.

The following are a few of the most compelling reasons as to why DC is truly a great place to live.

The Tech Industry Boom

You don’t have to think about traveling all the way to Silicon Valley if you want to cultivate a career in the tech industry. Washington DC presents an excellent alternative and it has in fact experienced something of a boom in recent years. Yes, jobs in the federal government and various contract workers remain a huge majority of the workforce in DC, but the opportunities available in cybersecurity and tech are growing exponentially. In fact, major companies such as Microsoft and Oracle have moved here, so it’s a great place to explore this career track.

Excellent Transportation

The Metro system in DC is highly sophisticated and very convenient. You may not even need a car here, depending upon where you live. While the cost of living in DC is not exactly cheap given its proximity to money and powerful institutions, it is far more reasonable than other metropolises such as New York City, or Los Angeles. So, finding an apartment or home is a more forgiving process, one made all the sweeter given the fact that transportation is affordable and can take you to points A and B in a jiffy.

Fun Attractions

There is so much to do in DC, and it is doubtful that you’ll ever be bored. World-famous attractions such as the National Museum of American History, the Smithsonian, and the Lincoln Memorial receive millions of tourists a year. Also, beautiful performing arts venues such as the famed John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts offer incredibly rich seasonal programming with something to offer pretty much everyone. There are also wonderful jazz venues and underground rock clubs – after all, this is the city that gave birth to Fugazi and the Straight Edge Movement. If you love the arts and want a chance to delve deep into the country’s rich history, then DC is definitely the place to be.

Explore the Great Outdoors

DC is close to so many national parks, and this green, picturesque area is easy to navigate. There are plenty of bike lanes, and you can go off on weekends exploring expeditions with no fuss at all. There is the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal to check out, as well as the US National Arboretum which has beautiful season gardens. So, if you want to live in a big metropolis but see more than just endless rows of buildings, DC has a lot to offer in that regard.

DC remains one of the most diverse and densely populated areas in the country. It is electric, with a lot to do and explore, so it is no wonder that it has been attracting a bevy of young professionals as of late. It’s a great place to embark on a new career, go to college given the excellent academic institutions there, or start a family.
