Cayman: Man charged in relation to firearms incident

UPDATE

On Tuesday, 8 December, a man age 41 of George Town, was arrested in connection with the incident on Sunday, 6 December, where a man was reported to have been assaulted with a firearm (see below). He has since been formally charged with Possession of an Imitation Firearm with Intent to Commit an Offense, Assault ABH, and Harassment, Alarm or Distress. He appears in court today, 10 December.

Police Investigate Reports of Shots Fired in George Town, 6 December

Just after 12AM today, Sunday 6 December, police were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a report of shots being fired in the vicinity of a bar located along Seymour’s Rd, George Town.

One man who was at the location attended the George Town Police Station with an injury to head and reported that he was hit in the head with a handgun by a man at the location on Seymour’s Rd.

The man was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital from the GTPS via ambulance. He was treated for what is believed to be a non-life-threatening injury and later released. No other persons have reported injuries to the police at this time.

The incident is under police investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department. Detectives are encouraging anyone with information pertaining to this incident to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
