Stingray Swim Club (SSC) Memorial Meet update from Sarasota

from Kathy Jackson

Saturday (19) Morning Session:

Seniors Andrew, Wunyae and Lauren did Stingray proud. Competed in 200IM, 50Free, 100 Back and Breast events with a number of solid Personal Best’s (PB’s).

Update Saturday (19) Afternoon Session:

Junior swimmers were on fire! Lots of PB’s and a couple of new SSC LC records and medals and ribbons to be collected! All our swimmers performed amazingly today but must make special mention of some:

– Marisa (6) – dropped 40+secs off 100Breast seed and 18secs off 50 Back with times better than some 7 and 8 year olds!

– Corey (8) added another 2 SSC LC records in Boys U8 and won 2 silver medals along the way. He broke J. Debruyne’s 1998 record of 48:02 in 50 Back with a time of 47:45 and lowered his own 50 Free record of 39:30 down to 37:25. In the Boys U10 100 Breast, he was placed 13th after taking 12 seconds off his seed time.

– Ali (9)- 5th overall in 50Back with a super time of 40:47 in her 1st time in 50M pool narrowly missing Coral Tomascik’s SSC Girls 9-10 Record of 40:27! She has promised to break it next time so keep an eye on her at future meets!

– Jake (9) dropped an astonishing 10secs off his 50 Back seed time with 47:92!

– Alex placed in top 8 in 100Breast and took 11secs off his seed time in 100Fly with time of 1:32:75. It was the most graceful Fly swim today – truly a beautiful sight to behold!

– Samantha (11) placed 7th in 50Free earning points for team with a time of 32:47.

– Iain Macrae placed in top 10 in 100Breast with his PB time of 1:51:73.

-Jonathan Anderson (11) – had lots of strong swims and racked up PB’s – took 12secs off his 100 Free seed time with time of 1:25:80!

– And Dream Team – 11-12 200 Free Relay (Liam, Iain, Jonathan and Alex) placed 7th earning points for team

A huge “thank u” to SSC’s amazing coaches who were on deck for about 10-11 hours straight for two days.

Coach Marie and Coach Charlotte were warming our kids up, getting them focused, encouraging and following up with them after each race! The SSC’s swimmers’ self-awareness is growing and 9/10 they know what they could have done better to make their race faster before they check in with their Coaches.

Oh — and the parents … broke, hoarse and only a little bit sunburned!
