Cayman: Need for Stakeholder Collaborations to Achieve Sustainable Development – Minister Hew

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands – Minister of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure, Hon. Joey Hew has underscored the need for multi-stakeholder collaborations at all levels to enable countries to achieve sustainable growth and development.

Minister Hew was speaking as part of a panel discussion alongside the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica during the Caribbean Infrastructure Conference at the AC Marriot Hotel in Kingston recently (January 21), as they addressed strategies for advancing infrastructure, sustainability and resilience in their respective islands.

“I challenge us all to have several perspectives when we discuss this because… we are talking about the future of our countries, and so we should take all things into considerations as we move forward,” he said.

Minister Hew spoke about the infrastructural agenda of the Cayman Islands which includes road infrastructure, the Integrated Solid Waste Management System project, Owen Roberts International Airport’s airside upgrade and the proposed cruise berthing and cargo port redevelopment project.

“Development is being done with sensitivity towards the environment and within the framework of the National Energy Policy,” Minister Hew emphasised.

The Caribbean Infrastructure Forum which took place January 21-22 convened the region’s public sector, utilities, financiers and project investors to map out the region’s infrastructure needs, foster relationships and introduce Caribbean projects to international sources of expertise and financing.

The event, which was organised by New Energy Events and IJGlobal, was attended by private and public sector decision makers, utility representatives, multilaterals and representatives across the financing space from the Caribbean and other regions.
