David Ramnarine resigns from the Guyana Police Force

    Posted on September 3, 2018
By Dennis Adonis From Guyana Guardian
Guyana Guardian – Assistant Commissioner of Police David Ramnarine has resigned from the Guyana Police Force, citing the government’s failure to confirm him as the top cop or even appointing him as a Deputy Commissioner.

While details are sketchy, the Guyana Guardian was informed by a usually reliable source at the Ministry of the Presidency that Ramnarine has already handed in his resignation.

Questioned on why Ramnarine was not considered for the post of Top Cop or promoted to a Deputy Commissioner, the Ministry of the Presidency source pointed out that the opposition People Progressive Party had already warned that they would never support Ramnarine’s bid to become Commissioner or a Deputy.

As a matter of fact, it was revealed that opposition leader Bharrat Jagdeo had planned to object to the promotion of all deputies and the top cop position if Ramnarine’s name was included in the list of five.

To avoid a stand-off, the President was forced to remove Ramnarine’s name from the list, which has now see the former acting Commissioner of Police slipping to the number 7 position in the police force.

Another source who is also very close to the Assistant Commissioner told the Guyana Guardian that “David had considered leaving the police force since Wednesday, citing a number of things that I do not wish to disclose. It is better for you to ask him yourself”

Ramnarine, who had held the reigns of acting Commissioner of Police since last year, was not among the five assistant Commissioners that were shortlisted by President David Granger for the post of Top Cop, or Deputy Commissioner.
