Latin America and the Caribbean receive multiple accolades in World Travel Awards
Created in 1993 with the aim of recognising, rewarding and celebrating excellence across the different aspects of the travel and hospitality industries, the World Travel Awards are an event that tourism professionals look forward to every year. The 2017 ceremony took place in the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort and Spa, situated on the South Coast of Vietnam. Many of the night’s most important accolades were presented to locations within Latin America and the Caribbean.

Over 200 tourism experts were part of the judging panel that voted and declared the winners in several categories. Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and Jamaica were the countries that received the most accolades in the region. The most significant prizes these countries were honoured with were:

Chile – Best Adventure Destination in the World 2017

This the second time the country wins in this category, proving the country’s great appeal thanks to its stunning nature and impressive landscapes full of contrasts: from the Atacama desert and the Torres del Paine National Park to the geysers of Tatio and the San Rafael glacier.

Ecuador – Best Eco-friendly Destination

For the fifth year in a row, Ecuador wins the award for most eco-friendly destination thanks to its amazing flora and fauna, which is protected throughout more than 20 national parks, eco-reserves and marine and wildlife refuges. Some of the most popular spots include the Andes mountains, the Amazon rainforest and Galapagos Islands.

The local government has declared that Bolivia is home to over 36 different ethnics; from native Indians to Afro-Bolivians.

Peru – World’s Best Culinary Destination

Peru was voted the world’s best destination in terms of culinary greatness for the sixth consecutive year. Boasting a rich, interesting and delicious cuisine, the country is home to three restaurants that are listed amongst the World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
