Cayman Islands legal ruling in matters of Martin Bridger and Richard Coy – Case closed!

Wednesday, 22 November, the Office of the DPP issued a legal ruling directing no criminal prosecution against Martin Bridger or Richard Coy, relating to the long running Operation Tempura investigation.
The RCIPS can confirm that both parties have been advised of the ruling and that the case is now closed.
Garbage Collection in Grand Cayman
The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) apologises to residents of Grand Cayman who have been experiencing delays in their garbage collection services over the past week.
The delays have been caused by unavailability of some of the garbage collection trucks.
DEH will embark on a special operation to clear garbage from communities which have not been serviced since the start of this week. These communities include Safehaven to Industrial Park and South Sound Road to Prospect/Patricks Island. Normal collections are scheduled to resume on Monday, 27 November.

Neil Lavis to leave Cayman Islands Prisons
Cayman Islands Home Affairs Ministry Chief Officer Dax Basdeo has confirmed Neil Lavis, Head of Her Majesty’s Prisons Service in the Cayman Islands, will be leaving before Christmas this year.
This is a surprise as he signed a new contract to stay until 20120 only five month ago.
No reason has been given.
Cayman Islands National Museum “Shaped by the Sea” Exhibition Opening
The Cayman Islands National Museum is holding a special Christmas Looky Ya! event on Saturday, 25 November from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to mark the museum’s 27th anniversary. The event will include the opening of new exhibition “Shaped by the Sea”, celebrating the life of “Captain Chuckie” Ebanks, which runs for six months. Festivities will also include local artisans, artists and food.
Cayman Islands: Rental Car Reported Stolen, 22 November
Shortly before 8:30AM on Wednesday, 22 November, police received a report of a stolen vehicle belonging to a rental car company.
The vehicle, a white Hyundai Grand i10, was rented on 27 September for a period of one week but has not been returned since. A picture of a similar vehicle is attached.

Alfredo Whittaker is new Cayman Islands Football Association President
After a marathon four rounds of voting Alfredo Whittaker has been elected the new President of the Cayman Islands Football Association. (CIFA)
When the first round of voting began incumbent Lee Ramoon received 6 votes, and Whittaker and candidate Renard Moxam eacg receiving 5.
A second and third vote were then executed with Whittaker at 6 votes, and Ramoon and Moxam 5, It was then Moxam excused himself from the election.
The fourth and final vote secured Whittaker as president when he received 8 and Ramoon 7.
“It’s a great honor to be elected,” Whittaker said when he accepted the presidency, “and to get the confidence of teams, clubs and the football families in the Cayman Islands. The amount of work I’ve put in as a referee, as a coach, in assisting clubs. This is a reward, and now it’s time to return that confidence and get to work.”
Dion Brandon was elected 2nd Vice President.
The fete of 1st Vice president, Bruce Blake, who has been suspended, will be discussed at a CIFA Executive Council Meeting.

Cayman Islands Police remind the public to ensure vehicles are locked
As the holiday season approaches, the RCIPS is reminding the public to be vigilant in ensuring that parked vehicles are properly secured, and that valuables are not left inside, especially where they can be seen by onlookers.
“We are concerned about the number of thefts from parked vehicles that have occurred over the past few weeks,” said Inspector Lloyd Marriott, Area Commander for West Bay. “These are usually crimes of opportunity, so it’s well worth taking the extra time to make sure your vehicle is secured.”
Cayman Islands: Coe Wood Beach Operations Lead to Arrest, 15 November

Officers have been continuing operations in the Coe Wood Beach area of Bodden Town in response to community complaints about disturbances and anti-social behaviour. As a result of these operations police arrested a man, aged 47 of George Town, yesterday, 15 November, on suspicion of possession of ganja with intent to supply and other related offenses. The officers’ attention had been drawn to the suspect’s vehicle by a police canine during their operations, and upon searching the vehicle a quantity of suspected ganja was found.
The man is currently on Police bail.
VAS Annual Art Sale @ CB – Sat Nov 25
The Visual Arts Society (VAS) will be hosting its Annual Christmas Arts and Craft sale Saturday November 25th from 10 am to 5 pm along the Paseo at Camana Bay.
Tents will be set up with tables full of; hand crafted jewellry, original paintings, ceramics, Christmas decorations and cards, souvenirs, hand painted silk scarves, ties and so much more. ” It’s amazing the variety of items the artists create from their photographs, batik, painted canvases, clay, stamps collections, plus gems and stones found on the beach” , mentions Marketing Coordinator Mary McCallum, “plenty of options for everyone’s taste”.
The Society has informed us this year they will be selling a fundraiser item, VAS Mugs, which were originally donated to the society. VAS recently invested in the cost to have their logo added to the mugs creating a souvenir for locals and visitors. The funds raised will help support their art programmes.
The society is a non-profit organizations with no corporate or government sponsorship who operate through the efforts of their volunteers funded by their annual membership. The society provides opportunities for artists of all levels and ages to develop in the art community through learning or teaching at their workshops, exhibiting and selling their creations, getting involved in art events plus great volunteer opportunities.
Membership information will be available at the VAS Tent where the VAS Mugs can be purchased. “You don’t need to be an artist to become a member”, explains Mary McCallum, “the society’s membership is made up of hobbyist, commercial artists, those who just have fun creating or just want to support the art community”.
The art society studio is located on the grounds of Pedro St. James where they offer the various workshops in drawing, painting, interior design, ceramics, photography and more.
Come out and support the arts and enjoy a fun day at Camana Day. Take in the art and crafts, treat yourself or buy a unique locally made gift, enjoy some baked goods and music, do some Christmas shopping, plus Camana Bay offers plenty of restaurants and other things to see and do.

Cayman Islands: Road Closures for Run in the Dark, Wednesday 15 November
On Wednesday, 15 November, Harbour Drive and South Church Street will be closed between Fort Street and Boilers Road from 7:30PM to 10:00PM. Shedden Road will also be closed between Elgin Avenue and Harbour Drive. This is to facilitate the 3rd Annual Run in the Dark which will be taking place that evening.

Cayman Islands DEH Temporarily reduces intake of scrap metals and derelict vehicles
The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) wishes to advise the public that the George Town landfill is temporarily operating at a reduced frequency for the acceptance of scrap metals and derelict vehicles.
The DEH urges residents to refrain from abandoning vehicles on private property, along the road way and in other public spaces during this time. The DEH is also asking members of the public not to bring in scrap metals until further notice.
“We have not completely stopped the collection of scrap metals and derelict vehicles but have reduced the quantities going to the landfill until we can safely stack the metals and prepare another area for the safe storage of the derelict vehicles,” said DEH Director Roydell Carter.
The DEH apologises to the public for any inconvenience caused by this temporary delay and will update members of the public as soon as it is able to resume complete collection of derelict vehicles/scrap metals.

Cayman Islands’ Green Iguana Cull extended
The Department of Environment wishes to announce that this year’s green iguana cull is to be extended until the end of November 2017.
Although contracts to cullers were issued with a provisional end date of 31 August 2017, availability of funds is sufficient to allow current culling contractors to continue until the end of November. Terms of contracts and payment rates will remain unchanged.
Culling contractors and other interested parties are asked to carefully note the following deadlines and arrangements:
1. No new contractors will be signed up after 5 p.m. on 31 August, 2017.
2. The green iguana raffle will close on 31 August 2017. Participants will be invited to attend the closing draw.
3. No contractor reports of culled iguanas will be accepted for payment after 5 p.m. on 30 November, 2017.
