The 3rd annual Off The Beaten Track 50k Ultra Marathon is just around the corner.  This one of a kind trail run will be taking place Sunday, February 26, 2012 and is unique to other races not only in length, but also the route itself.  Individual runners and relay teams of six are encouraged to take on this challenge.

The official route for Off The Beaten Track has just been released. Unlike other races, this route will have limited markers and signage, so it is up to the runners to be prepared and familiarize themselves prior to race day.  Ken Krys, CEO of KRyS Global, and founder of Off The Beaten Track has participated in similar races in Morocco, South America and Antarctica.

“We are trying to mix it up a little more than previous years, making it a little tougher and unique”, Krys said.  “This race will give runners the chance to see neighborhoods and areas of the island that they may not be familiar with.  We plan to include some dyke roads, beach and brush, so it is intended to be a challenging course”.

The route is divided into 6 Legs that comprise of Seven Mile Beach, West Bay, Safehaven, George Town, Airport/Business Parks and throughout South Sound.

This year Off The Beaten Track will be donating half of the proceeds to Facing Africa, a charity that send doctors to Ethiopia and Nigeria help to children with the devastating disease Noma.  The rest of the proceeds will help the very deserving local charities Cayman’s ARK and the School of Fitness.

Route details are now available online at www.offthebeatentrack.ky/the-route  and runners can register at www.caymanactive.com.  The race will start off at Public Beach at 6:30am Sunday, February 26 and will finish at Calico Jacks with a post race meal and awards ceremony.
