People climb onto dead, beached whale in Bali for a photo op

A dead sperm whale, measuring 16 metres, washed up on the shores of Batu Tumpeng Beach in East Bali, Indonesia Monday morning.

Two local fisherman, Negah Sunarta, 37, and Nengah Darpa, 35, came across the whale when they were out fishing for lobsters.

The find drew huge crowds of curious onlookers eager to take pictures of the dead animal.

Images posted on Instagram showed several locals climbing onto the whale’s body.

Some bystanders also jumped at the opportunity to get up close to the mammoth animal.

A Balinese priest was also seen in photos making offerings to the whale.

It took a few hours for the local authorities to coordinate with the Klungkung Department of Fisheries and Marine Affairs, the Natural Resource Conversation body (KSDA) and the Regional Disaster Managemejt Agency on the removal of the whale’s body, reported Coconuts Bali.
