Serious MVA-Cayman Brac – FURTHER UPDATE

Update on Serious MVA Yesterday, 15 November, on Cayman Brac        

The man, age 48, a resident of Cayman Brac and US citizen, who survived the serious single-vehicle accident that occurred around 5pm yesterday, 15 November, on Cayman Brac, was flown to Grand Cayman yesterday and underwent surgery at George Town Hospital.   He was reported to be conscious after surgery and recuperating.

Two other men, ages 50 and 54, a resident and visitor respectively, were killed in the accident.  Both were US citizens.  While on the scene investigating the accident, officers received information that a third man had been seen in the car as well earlier in the day.  Officers then made further checks of the area while the Fire Department assisted with the lifting of the vehicle, a Honda Odyssey Minivan, which was overturned.  At around 8:45PM the body of the 54-year-old male was discovered underneath the vehicle.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Air Operations Unit transported accident investigators from Grand Cayman to Cayman Brac this morning to carry out a full investigation.

As a result of a further examination of the scene police recovered a third male travelling in the vehicle.

He is a 54 year old male visitor to the island from the USA pronounced dead at the scene.

The local US consulate has been informed.

Investigations are continuing.

Police are currently on scene investigating a one vehicle accident involving a Honda Odyssey with two males on board which ran off the road on South Side Road East,Cayman Brac at approximately 5.15pm today.

Information received that a 51 year old male resident died as a result of injuries sustained,the other male was taken to the Faith Hospital.

The vehicle was travelling East when it lost control and overturned.

Arrangements are currently being made for Accident Investigators to fly out from Grand Cayman.
