3rd UPDATE: 2 dead bodies found adrift in boat by Cayman Islands police patrol

A postmortem has been conducted on the bodies discovered in a boat adrift off Little Cayman on 25 August. The bodies are of two males, one estimated to be about 35-40 years of age, and second to be over 50 years of age. The bodies had significantly decomposed and a final determination on causes of death is still pending the pathologist’s findings.

We are awaiting formal identification of the deceased from another jurisdiction, and will release this information once confirmed.

It has been confirmed that the vessel in which the bodies were discovered is registered in Jamaica.

The boat with two deceased males discovered by police off Little Cayman yesterday, 25 August, was towed by the police boat Cayman Defender to Cayman Brac yesterday afternoon, where it arrived at about 2pm. Both males were visually pronounced dead by a doctor from Faith Hospital. The boat and bodies were examined, photographically processed, and fingerprinted. The bodies have been transported to the morgue at Faith Hospital. An examination by a pathologist and post mortem date are to be determined.

We are continuing our investigation and will provide updates, including identification of the deceased, as it progresses.

The boat discovered by police today off the coast of Little Cayman was towed to Cayman Brac and arrived there about 2pm. The two bodies found on the boat are both males. The boat is a canoe about 28ft in length. Officers from the Scenes of Crime Office were transported to Cayman Brac by the Air Operations Unit and are investigating with officers from the Criminal Investigations Department.

About 11:45AM this morning a police marine vessel on patrol came across a boat about 13 miles southwest of Little Cayman, which was adrift in the water. Police discovered two bodies on the boat.  The boat is now being towed to Cayman Brac.  Uniform officers are investigating, as well as SOCO officers from Grand Cayman have been dispatched to the scene.
