Every new mom has her own personal struggle with motherhood, but there’s nothing like a good laugh to put everything in perspective.

Comedian Meghna Shah just became a new mom three months ago, and her experience with pregnancy, childbirth and now raising a child hasn’t exactly been a laugh riot.

“You go through all these physical and emotional changes that are difficult to understand and process, and since alcohol is not an option, having a sense of humor is sometimes the only way to get through the day,” Shah told Mashable.

Shah’s witty series, Mommie Poppins, perfectly describe what it’s like to become a new mom. Her bits of humor combined with her friend, Radhika Chitalia’s adorable drawings have not only brought joy to people who follow her, they also gave her an opportunity to think about her personal experience as a mom.

“My biggest challenge was to cut through all the noise and learn to trust my own instincts and get confident as a new parent, which I am hoping is any day now,” Shah said. “I have learned that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, goes through tough times as a new mom.”

Shah’s honest witticisms cover a wide range of real struggles women go through during pregnancy and raising kids such as hormones, changing diapers and some social commentary as well.

“Often only the glamorous aspects of pregnancy and new motherhood are shared. It definitely is one of the most cherished and beautiful time in any new parent’s life but it’s also easily the most confusing … Laughing doesn’t make it all easier, but having a sense of humor helps me think more rationally and serves as my reality check.”

More of Shah’s amusing series can be found on the Mommie Poppins Instagram and Facebook pages.

UPDATE: July 29, 2015, 9:18 a.m. EST: Shah worked with illustrator Radhika Chitalia to create her series. This article has been updated to reflect her contribution to the series.
