Digicel, in keeping with its mantra to youth and sports development in St Lucia, partnered with the St.Lucia National Tennis Centre in successfully hosting the Fourth Annual Eastern Caribbean Tennis Tournament held at the National Tennis Court in Beausejour from April 4th –April 11th2015.

We continue to see the sport of tennis growing rapidly in St. Lucia, with an increasing interest from young persons in the various communities.

Tennis does not only encourage athletes to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but by its nature engenders an increase in discipline, initiative, self-motivation and goal-setting.

These qualities in turn foster a process of continual self-improvement that serves our developing youth, in all areas of their lives including social interaction and academics.

The championships featured teams from the region, including Antigua and Barbuda, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and Anguilla to name a few.

The tournament contained the junior category of both boys and girls 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under and 18 and under along with the Adult categories of men open and women singles, men and women doubles and men and women mixed doubles.

After a long week of tennis matches the championship climaxed with a prize giving ceremony which highlighted the outstanding players during the tournament.

“Digicel prides itself on associating its brand with the extraordinary in our St. Lucian people. Digicel continues to be an advocate for youth development not only through education but also in the area of sports. Going way back to the support of Stacey Roheman who is performing exceptionally well in the sport of tennis to Darren Sammy and Johnson Charles in the sport of cricket and the newly acquired Sharks Swim Team, demonstrates Digicel’ s commitment to youth and sports development in St Lucia. Providing an opportunity for the young persons to gain experience in a competitive atmosphere is always a step in the right direction for further development” Commented Fiona Smith Marketing and Communications Executive

Digicel congratulates all winners and participants of the 2015 Eastern Caribbean Tennis Tournament and commends the members of the St. Lucia National Tennis Centre and Association on a well-executed championship.
