Second arrest made in killing of DLA Piper lawyer

Messerschmitt-BreakingBy Zoe Tillman, from Legal Times

A second woman was arrested in the stabbing death of Washington lawyer David Messerschmitt, police said Wednesday.

Dominique Johnson, 19, was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. Police last week charged 21-year-old Jamyra Gallmon with first-degree felony murder while armed in connection with Messerschmitt’s death.

The Metropolitan Police Department did not immediately provide details about Johnson’s arrest or her role in the events that led to the murder of Messerschmitt. Gallmon allegedly told police that she met up with Messerschmitt with the intent of robbing him. The charging documents filed in Gallmon’s case didn’t mention a co-conspirator.

Messerschmitt, 30, an associate at DLA Piper, was found dead at The Donovan Hotel on Feb. 10. He was stabbed multiple times. According to charging documents, Gallmon allegedly responded to an ad that Messerschmitt posted on Craigslist the day before seeking responses from men. The two arranged to meet at the hotel the evening of Feb. 9.

Gallmon allegedly told police that Messerschmitt didn’t realize she was in the room until she turned to leave. When Messerschmitt grabbed her arm, she told police, it triggered a memory of a prior assault. Gallmon pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed him.

After Gallmon was arrested, police put out an alert asking for information about the email address she allegedly used to respond to Messerschmitt, [email protected].

Johnson was arrested at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, according to police.

Gallmon and a co-defendant named Dominique Johnson were sued in a landlord-and-tenant matter filed in late February in D.C. Superior Court. According to court records, the two women were accused by their landlord of failing to pay their full rent that month on an apartment in southeast Washington. The address matches the address listed for Gallmon in charging documents filed in the Messerschmitt case.

Gallmon and Johnson agreed to make payments by early April, according to papers filed with the court on March 24.
