Cayman Islands EBC wraps up week of meetings

Commissioners 1The newly appointed Electoral Boundaries Commissioners spent 24-26 February 2015 in discussions with various Civil Service agencies.

Meeting for the first time as a group, the commissioners met with the Governor and attended their first planning session. They also worked to gather data relevant to the introduction of single member constituencies, from representatives of the Lands and Survey and Planning Departments, the Economics and Statistics Office and the Elections Office.

Commission Chairman Lisa Handley, PhD, explains that a detailed understanding of trends in development and population growth is necessary for the team to be able to make informed recommendations about the shape that any new constituencies should take.

The commission is scheduled to meet again in March to finalise its review of the technical information. It will launch public meetings in April.

Local attorneys Adriannie Webb and Steve McField also serve on the commission.

Members of the public can contact the Elections Office on 949-8047 with any queries.
