Christmas bash for seniors

Senior citizens, relatives and caregivers, socialised last week at the combined Seniors Bash and Annual Christmas Banquet.  The event was hosted by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) at the Seafarer’s Hall.

On Monday, 5 December, the 100-plus attendees enjoyed dancing and good food, as well as singing carols and traditional songs. Dancing followed dinner, with Mr. Neil Godfrey retaining the Ballroom King title for the second year, while Ms. Adina Seymour was chosen as the Ballroom Queen.

Addressing the gathering, DCFS’ Acting Director Alicia ‘Jen’ Dixon expressed warm wishes for the Christmas season, and encouraged everyone to “remember that this is a season of sharing and loving”.

The occasion also served as a celebration of the service of Community Development Coordinator Zemrie Thompson, who retires this month after 26 years’ public service. The five Community Development Officers were also present – along with DCFS staff.

Research & Programme Development Manager Debbie Webb-Sibblies thanked all sponsors and contributors for making this seniors’ event an annual high point of the DCFS calendar.
