Arnold Palmer design team visit Cayman Islands

2010_logoFollowing up on a visit in February with Arnold Palmer, members of the Arnold Palmer Design Company (APDC) team returned to Grand Cayman in September. During their stay Thad Layton, senior golf course architect and Vice President at the Arnold Palmer Design Company, and Roy Saunders, Vice President of Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida met with the Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin and Hon. Kurt Tibbetts, Minister of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure, to discuss the progress to date on the access road agreement and plans for the Ironwood development in general.

The access road for Ironwood will be a 10-mile extension to the East-West photo (2)Corridor from Hirst Road to Frank Sound and the final sign off on the Public/Private Partnership Agreement will be the catalyst for commencement of not only the road extension but also for the Town Centre and the Arnold Palmer designed golf course.

Whilst on island Thad, Roy and members of the Ironwood team also took the opportunity to visit the Ironwood Golf Course site and walk the area where the course will be situated. “It is great to be here once again on Grand Cayman, and to explore the site on which we will build our very first course in the Caribbean.   Getting on the property early and often is essential to understanding the unique characteristics of the site before breaking ground. said Thad Layton. He added “We documented native rock formations, trees, and wetlands that will ultimately be incorporated into the final golf course design. We couldn’t be more pleased with the property’s potential to yield a golf course of the highest quality.”
