Day Three Final round of Men’s CFU Caribbean Cup

(CFU) Martinique meets Suriname in the last game of Group 3 in the 2014 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Men’s Caribbean Cup this evening, at the Stade Pierre Aliker á Fort de France in Martinique at 6:00pm, while Bonaire faces Barbados in the early game at 4:00pm.

Martinique leads this group with six points, Bonaire has three while Barbados and Suriname are on one point each. It’s a sticky situation in Group 4 as French Guiana and Curacao meets at 2:30pm in a do or die game as both teams have four points in hand.

This game will certainly be a tough one as both teams will be making all efforts to separate themselves with a win. Hosts Puerto Rico plays Grenada at 5:30 pm, both teams has one point apiece.

Both games will be played at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Puerto Rico. In Group 5 top of the table teams Antigua & Barbuda and St Vincent and the Grenadines clash at 7:00pm in a decisive game at the Antigua Recreation Grounds in Antigua.

Both teams will enter the game with six points each and play hard to gain maximum nine points or a draw with a better goal average to advance to the next round.

Meanwhile, Dominican Republic and Anguilla are both on zero. This game will also be interesting as both teams will be playing for a win when they meet at 5:00pm.

The suspense continues in Group 6 with St Kitts & Nevis and St Lucia leading this group with four points apiece. At 5:30pm Dominica with one point encounters St Lucia while at 8:30pm St Kitts & Nevis entertains Guyana which has one point as well.

The place to be in St Kitts and Nevis this evening is the Warner Park Stadium where both games will be played. The top teams emerging from these groups will advance to the Second Round scheduled to start on October 8.

GROUP 3 (at Fort de France, Martinique — Stade Pierre-Aliker)

Martinique 6, Bonaire 0

Captain Gael Germany scored three goals as Martinique earned a 6-0 win over Bonaire. The host took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks Germany’s 35th minute strike. The floodgates opened six minutes into the second half as Germany added a second and then went on to complete the his hat-trick in the 76th minute. Jose Goron (81’, 90’+1) netted a brace, while Mathias Coureur (61’) also got on the scoresheet.

Barbados 1, Suriname 1

Jerney Faerber scored late to grab a share of the points for Suriname in a 1-1 draw against Barbados. Romelle Burgess gave Barbados a 70th minute lead, but Faerber leveled with nine minutes left in normal time.

GROUP 4 – (at Bayamon, Puerto Rico — Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel)

Puerto Rico 2, Curacao 2

Curacao rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie Puerto Rico, 2-2. Joseph Marrero (7’, 51’) staked the host to a 2-0 lead, but Curacao mounted a brave comeback as Prince Mathilda (59’) and Shelton Martis (82’) struck for the vital goals.

Grenada 1, French Guiana 1

Grenada let an early lead slip against French Guiana in a 1-1 draw. After a goalless first half, Terry James (58’) found the target for the Spice Boys. The celebrations didn’t last long as Sylvio Breleur equalized just one minute later.

GROUP 5 – (at St. John’s, Antigua & Barbuda — Antigua Recreation Grounds)

St. Vincent & the Grenadines 1, Dominican Republic 0

Nazir McBurnette scored the only goal as St. Vincent & the Grenadines registered a 1-0 victory over the Dominican Republic. Jarrel McMaster delivered the cross that McBurnette tucked away three minutes before halftime.

Antigua & Barbuda 6 Anguilla 0

England-based midfielder Kieran Murtagh scored twice as the Antigua & Barbuda outdistanced Anguilla, 6-0. The 25-year-old (35’, 66’) found the net once in half, energizing the enthusiastic home crowd. Hull City forward Calaum Jahraldo-Martin (8’), Tavaughn Harriette (44’), Peter Byers (55’) and Quinton Griffith (68’) were also on target.

GROUP 6 – (at Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis – Warner Park)

Guyana 0, Dominica 0

Despite several scoring opportunities for both sides, Guyana and Dominica played to a 0-0 draw. Dominica had a chance to win the match outright, but Kenny Jno Baptise sailed a penalty kick into the stands. The Guyanese, making a return to international football after nearly a two-year absence, held on despite being reduced to 10 men following defender Steffon Ramsay’s ejection for his second yellow card.

St. Kitts & Nevis 0, St. Lucia 0

Host St. Kitts & Nevis and battled to 0-0 draw in a match that saw both teams be issued a pair of yellow cards.

Men’s Caribbean Cup First Round Ends

The final round of the CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup 2014 exciting group play comes to an end with nine teams advancing to the second round of the Caribbean Cup 2014 qualifying stage.

Our action kicks off with Group 3 as Martinique tops the group with 7 points after a 0 – 0 draw with Suriname. Earlier Barbados defeated Bonaire 4 – 1 after goalless first half Emerson Boyce opened the scoring in the second half with a 55th minute strike, Ramario Harewood then doubled the lead in the 67th and Mario Harte closed the win the a double strike in the 74th and 76th minute of play respectively.

Bonaire scored from the penalty spot as Yurick Seinpaul comverted in the 90th. After 3 matches Martinique and Barbados advances to the next round of play. In group 5 host nation Antigua & Barbuda finished undefeated as they came from behind to defeat a well organized St. Vincent & Grenadines team 2- 1. It was in the first half that Nazir McBurnette scored on the 46th minute. In the second half the host nation rallied by scoring two goals in the final ten minutes with Akeem Thomas in the 81th minute and Nathaniel Jarvis in the 90th minute securing top spot for the Antiguans.

In the earlier encounter Dominican Republic hammered Anguilla 10 – 0. Dominican Republic opened the scoring after Kyle Kentish scored an own goal in the 20th minute. Rony Beard then doubled the lead in the 32th minute, then Kerby Rodriguez 41th minute. Johnathon Fana added a fourth goal in the 44th minute just before halftime. In the second half Kerby Rodriguez doubled his account on the night with a strike in the 53rd. Rony Beard then scored in the 62th minute, Johnathon fana 87th and Domingo Peralta in the 86th and 88th minute. Samuel Zayas then scored the 10th goal of the night in the 90th minute.

Group 5 closes as Antigua advances topping the group with 9 points and St. Vincent finishing runners up on 6 points.

In Group 4 French Guiana and Curacao advance finishing with 5 points respectively. Both nations faced each other on the final day but drew blank with a 0 – 0 draw. Puerto Rico also drew 2 – 2 with Grenada as the host nation failed to advance into the second round.

Puerto Rico opened scoring in the 29th minute through Hector Ramos. Terry James equalized for Grenada in the second half but Alex Olkkonen restored the lead in the 68th minute.

But Kitson Baine of Grenada secured a draw when he scored in the 85th minute. Finally in Group 6 St. Kitts & Nevis advance as group winners along with St. Lucia both nations finishing on 7 points respectively.

St. Lucia defeated Dominica by 2 – 1 as Magnum Vilcin opened the scoring in the 13th minute of play. Julian Wade then equalized for Dominica in the 68th but Vilcin scores his second of the night in the 76th minute to give St. Lucia victory.

Host nation St. Kitts & Nevis blanked Guyana 2 – 0 as second half goals from Zephaniah Thomas in the 53rd minute and Atiba Harris in the 60 minute.

Teams that have advance to the next round of qualifying are Group winners: Antigua & Barbuda, Martinique, Curacao and St. Kitts & Nevis.

Teams that have advance as Runner Ups: St. Vincent & The Grenadines, French Guiana, Barbados and St.Lucia.

Best 3rd Place Team is the: Dominican Republic.
