Mothers’ Union Mothers’ Day Tea Party

IMG_1668The St George’s Anglican (Episcopal) Church’s Mothers’ Union held their Annual Mothers’ Day Tea Party on Saturday 10th May at the Church Hall.

The hall was most attractively decorated and there was a full attendance of over 100 persons who spent a lovely afternoon from 3;30pm until 7pm.

A variety of teas were on hand to sample and the food was plentiful. There was even a Mad Hatters Tea Party where the St George’s Youth decorated hats and then went on to the stage to display them.

The Silent Auction had a variety of tasteful items but the starting off prices were out of reach for many of us present.

A liturgical dance performed by five members of the Women United in Worship was greeted with much applause.

An impromptu Dutch Auction was added into an already full programme that unfortunately meant the violin presentation by Kate Allenger and Fran McConvey had to be omitted but we did hear a delightful vocal rendition by the young and talented Melody Allenger, daughter of Kate, that brought a standing ovation.

Brooke, Fran’s daughter, did some modeling and that prompted some of the elder members to don some of the clothes and join in the fashion Show.

The highlight of the afternoon was when the Mothers’ Union honoured mothers. The honourees were:

Monica Bryan

Dorette Armstrong

Velda Carrington-Reid

Phyllis Hunter

And,

Lady Rita Johnson

All good things have to come to an end and as the price for admission was only $10 it had to be the best value in town.

Congratulations Mother Union
