The region-wide programme has grown considerably since beginning with just four countries in 2003.

“It’s now a region-wide initiative in all 17 countries where the bank has a presence,” Mr Coward said.

“The programme is not about the canonisation of individuals but an attempt by the bank to discover and herald those individuals in the community who without fanfare or fame or fortune have for long periods of time worked hard to uplift, enlighten and assist their neighbours in the business of living,” Mr. Coward continued.

“To be eligible for nomination individuals must show dedication to a cause which benefits their community, must not have a high media profile, and the cause that they are championing could benefit from the exposure,” Mr. Coward said.

During the evening, the bank formally announced the donation of $6,000 to a cause championed by Mrs Scott- in this case, the First Baptist Church.

Unsung Hero, Dorothy Scott recieves her award from Hon Mike Adam, Minister of Community Affairs.

“From an early age, Mrs Scott was involved in a number of charitable and community-oriented causes in the Cayman Islands, and still continues to this day. She took care of seniors and indigent individuals who had no one to take care of them – provided meals, groceries, clothing, and monetary funds,” Mr. Coward said.

“She has also been a mentor to young children and young women. She has assisted needy students monetarily and is known to have played a significant role in raising funds for a family who fell upon unforeseen circumstances due to the loss of a loved one.

“In addition to raising her own kids, she has taken additional children to live in her home on both a short-term and long-term basis. I’m told that her kids never knew if they were going to have an additional brother or sister overnight.

“Mrs Scott donates food to non-profit organisations who in turn distribute it to needy persons in the Cayman Islands. In this way, she quietly assists persons who would not know if the assistance came from her,” Mr. Coward said.
