2025 CUC PFL/GPFL: Review of Quarter-Finals

Top seeds march into primary school football semi-finals
The ‘edge of the seat excitement’ that the CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary
Football League (GPFL) regular seasons generate continued this past Saturday, November 29 as the
quarter-final stage of the 2025 playoffs were played.
GPFL Champions Cup:
With the Girls’ Consolation Cup going straight to the semi-final stage, the Girls’ Champions Cup took centre stage. Top seeds Sir John A. Cumber Primary and NorthEast Schools coasted through their quarter-finals matchups with Sir John A. Cumber Primary beating Red Bay Primary 4-0 (respect rule
enforced) and NorthEast School downing CIS Girls White 3-0. In the other two quarter-finals, Joanna Clarke defeated Island Primary 1-0 and Cayman Prep GA got past St. Ignatius Catholic 2-1. Sir John A. Cumber Primary will face Cayman Prep GA and NorthEast Schools will battle Joanna Clarke Primary
for a place in the final.
CUC PFL Under 9 Consolation Cup:
With Joanna Clarke Primary and Island Primary 9B receiving a bye to the semi-final stage due to their regular season league positions, Sir John A. Cumber Primary 9A had to play Sir John A. Cumber Primary 9B, beating them 4-0 (respect rule enforced) and Marie Martin Primary downed First Baptist
CS 2-0 to secure their places in the semi-finals. Sir John A. Cumber Primary 9A will play Joanna Clarke Primary and Marie Martin Primary will face Island Primary 9B in the final.
CUC PFL Under 9 Champions Cup:
In Saturday’s quarter-final matchups, top-seeded Cayman Prep 9A defeated fellow classmates Cayman Prep 9B 5-1, Island Primary 9A downed Red Bay Primary 1-0 thanks to a last-minute penalty,
Prospect Primary beat CIS 9 White 2-1 and St. Ignatius Catholic got past Footsteps School 1-0 in a thrilling penalty-shootout (0-0 after full time, 0-0 after extra time and 1-0 in penalties)
In the semi-finals, Island Primary 9A will play Prospect Primary and St. Ignatius Catholic take on Cayman Prep 9A.
CUC PFL Under 11 Consolation Cup:
With the Under 11 division having more schools than normal during the 2025 season, a playoff game needed to be played between newcomers Grace Christian Academy and Footsteps School to see which school would advance to the quarter-finals. This past Tuesday, Footsteps School defeated
Grace Christian Academy 4-0 (respect rule enforced) to secure that spot.
In Saturday’s quarter-finals, Cayman Prep 11B defeated Footsteps School 5-2, Cayman Brac beat CIS 11 White 3-2, Joanna Clarke Primary got past NorthEast Schools 4-0 and Red Bay Primary edged-out Theoline L. McCoy Primary 1-0.
The semi-finals feature Joanna Clarke Primary playing Red Bay Primary and Cayman Brac facing Cayman Prep 11B.
CUC PFL Under 11 Champions Cup:
In the Under 11 Champions Cup quarter-finals, defending champions Cayman Prep 11A had to dig deep to beat an inspired Sir John A. Cumber Primary side 3-1, St. Ignatius Catholic got past First Baptist CS 3-1, defending Under 11 Consolation Cup champions Marie Martin Primary beat 2024 finalists Prospect Primary 2-0 and Island Primary edged CIS 11 Blue 1-0.
The semi-finals will see Cayman Prep 11A take on St. Ignatius Catholic and Marie Martin Primary face
Island Primary for a place in the final.
The 2025 CUC PFL/GPFL semi-finals take place this Saturday, December 6 with the finals, third-place games and trophy presentation set for Saturday, December 13. All playoff games will be played at the Annex Field.
