White House: ISIS ‘caliphate has been destroyed’

By Jason Devaney From Newsmax

The Islamic State (ISIS) has been severely weakened by way of the destruction of its caliphate, the White House said Tuesday.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was asked about ISIS and its estimated force of around 30,000 militants during the daily briefing.

“We know the caliphate has been destroyed,” Sanders said. “There’s certainly ISIS fighters. That’s why we take all of those threats seriously and look for ways to defeat them and protect the American people and our allies.”

The United Nations released a report in which it concluded ISIS has 30,000 fighters, equally distributed between Iraq and Syria. The terror group was defeated in its de facto capital of Raqqa, Syria last fall, which sent its members fleeing to other parts of the war-torn nation.

President Donald Trump has said repeatedly this year ISIS is on the run and without an organized structure.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
