Florida has another possible outbreak of the Zika virus on the Gulf Coast in Pinellas County according to NBC News.

At least one person has been infected locally near St. Petersburg as the state also reported four more cases in Wynwood where the first continental U.S. Zika outbreak was noted.

“Today, we learned that the Florida Department of Health is investigating one new individual with non-travel related Zika in Pinellas County,” Gov. Rick Scott said. “While this investigation is ongoing, DOH (the Department of Health) still believes that ongoing active transmissions are only occurring in the two c2485ea3d84bb69f9ca2dce2f3c3-largepreviously identified areas in Wynwood and Miami Beach.”
So far 42 cases have been found in Florida as testing can show that someone is actively infected with the virus or that someone was infected and since recovered.

Whenever a report is found, health officials then go to test people living with or near the patient to help track the infections.

While one case does not denote an outbreak, if someone was infected and hasn’t had any contact with a traveler from an affected area, it has a strong likelihood that mosquitoes are infected locally and can spread the virus.
