The death of CES

The Consumer Electronics Show has been on life support for years. With the recent announcement from USA Today that “ has been named one of the 10 Best Auto Shows in the world,” I would have to say a proper funeral is all we’re missing.

I’ve been attending the January CES for just about as long as it has been running. And I remember when consumer electronics was more stereo than cars, drones, and robots.

I get it. A tradeshow is a business. It has no obligation to be a value proposition for anyone other than the owners of the tradeshow. Whatever brings in the hordes to fill the Las Vegas Convention Center is what a tradeshow company should focus on if they have no intention of providing value to their namesake.

I am just lamenting on what was and remarking on what is.

Things change and generally for the better.

But, not always.
