Shaped by the sea: Charles O “Captain Chuckie” Ebanks Cayman Islands Exhibition Preview

Fitting for such a man as Captain Chuckie, the Cayman Islands National Museum (CINM) curated an exhibition to take viewers through the life of this Tourism Ambassador. Shaped by the Sea, this iron man with an iron smile was a master father, model boat builder, rod maker, tourism ambassador and protector of the environment. Simply, Capt. Chuckie was an island man unapologetically proud of his heritage and unafraid to proclaim it.

Family and friends of Capt. Chuckie viewed the gallery, amazed at how well the exhibition represented Capt. Chuckie’s essence and life. Mark Ebanks, son of Capt. Chuckie was extremely pleased — and ecstatic to see the larger than life imagery of his father.

Mr. Alfonso Wright, Museum Board Chairman, presented Mark with the Museum’s prestigious Ira Thompson Award, given posthumously to his father. The Ira Thompson Award serves to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the preservation of our cherished history. Capt. Chuckie, of course, has done just that.

Everyone is encouraged to visit the National Museum to experience this exhibition. To book a class tour, email [email protected], or call the National Museum at (345) 949-8368 x 2024.
