Search and Rescue Operation

UPDATE: Search and Rescue Operation Continues Thursdayy, 10 March

The police marine vessel Guardian and police helicopter have resumed the search and rescue operation this morning for the 3 adults and 2 children missing at sea since Sunday, despite today’s rough weather conditions off the south west side of Grand Cayman, with waves estimated to be 10-15 ft.

IMG_0152The police marine vessel Guardian temporarily suspended the sea search yesterday due to bad weather and rough seas, but the air search continued with a shoreline search of non-beach areas on the west and south sides of the island during the late afternoon. This air support augmented a shoreline search by police and civilians over the last two days, which extended from Barkers Beach all the way to East End.

IMG_0217The US Coast Guard concluded its air assistance yesterday, but continues to liaise with the Air Operations and the Joint Marine Unit in order to provide us with all the technical data from its ocean buoys for the past two days. This information, in addition to USCG’s software analysis, forms the basis for each day’s search and rescue plan.

The search area for today’s operation is approximately 350 square miles.

Additional developments will be provided when available.
