Port of Galveston, Royal Caribbean sign MOU for third cruise terminal

By John Stansfield From Cruise Mapper

The Port of Galveston is now moving ahead on its plans to develop a 3rd cruise terminal.

The port and Royal Caribbean today (December 5) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to outline the operation and development of the new cruise ship terminal.

This is expected to allow negotiations to move forward. However, a final agreement has ultimately to be approved by the Board of Trustees of Galveston Wharves. The final agreement is due to be presented to the trustees at the regular monthly meeting in January 2019, according to media alert from the cruise port.

Galveston is the 4th-busiest cruise terminal in the country. In September, it welcomed Carnival Vista, the namesake ship in Carnival Cruise Line‘s largest class of vessels.

Port Director and CEO Rodger Rees had discussed a 3rd cruise terminal, but was unable to go into specifics. Details should be provided after signing the MOU today.
