New High Court Judge appointed to St. Kitts [formerly DDPP of Cayman Islands]

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court has announced the appointment of a new high court judge for St. Kitts.

Effective September 1st, Trevor McDonald Ward QC will preside over the St. Kitts circuit.

Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Vincent Byron Jr informed the public of the development during Tuesday’s sitting of the National Assembly.

“The Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and Chair of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission, Dame Janice Pereira DBE has informed the Acting Registrar of the high court that Mr. Trevor Ward QC of Trinidad and Tobago, has been appointed as high court judge assigned to St. Kitts and Nevis with effect from first of September, 2016.

“So from the first of September we will have a new high court judge, Justice Trevor Ward QC, of Trinidad and Tobago.”

QC Ward is replacing former resident judge Justice Marlene Carter who resigned from the ECSC effective August 15 after serving in the St. Kitts Judiciary for two years.

QC Ward, a national of Tobago, commenced his career as a prosecutor in 1998 when he joined the chambers of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Trinidad & Tobago. He was appointed Senior State Counsel in 2003 and served in that capacity until 2005 when he joined the Chambers of the Attorney General, Cayman Islands, as Crown Counsel. In 2007 he was appointed Senior Crown Counsel.

In 2011 Mr. Ward was appointed Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions for the Cayman Islands, serving in that capacity until returning home in 2014.
