Following the recent announcement of a $160 million investment on the island, LIME has launched “Upgrade Barbados”.

A member company of the New Cable & Wireless Communications Group, LIME Barbados is the first business unit in the Eastern Caribbean to launch as part of a wider Upgrade Caribbean initiative which also involves a branding and retail stores refresh programme.

LIME Caribbean CEO, Martin Roos said the company was excited about the upgrade plans and was proud of what had already been achieved under Project Marlin – the US$1.05 Billion major network upgrade investment in the Caribbean region – since the start of the year.

“We have embarked on a major network upgrade and increased broadband penetration and speeds in several markets. Now we are going above and beyond, ‘the behind the scenes’ network upgrade to deliver a refreshed livery, updated retail outlets and more for our consumers.”

Over the next month all LIME stores across the region will sport a fresh, new, vibrant colour scheme, with a simplified palette with green as the overall signature colour.

Speaking during the official launch of Upgrade programme, CEO of LIME Barbados, Oliver Chatten reiterated LIME’s commitment to Barbados through $160 million network investment. “This year we have upgraded our 4G coverage island-wide now making us the #1 network on the island,” Chatten explained. “We are well on the way to completing phase one of the fibre-to-the-home project, having passed fifty thousand homes, with an additional twenty-five thousand to be completed by mid-November. This major upgrade will allow customers to experience high internet speeds and enhanced LIME TV,” he said.

LIME has also increased its presence in the communities wherever it operates, spending more than US$10 million annually in social investment programmes and sponsorships across the Caribbean. LIME remains one of the biggest employers and investors in the region.

In August the New Cable & Wireless Communicationsin partnership with the Government of Bahamas, launched the BTC Foundation, a government-managed national social initiative of the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC). Structured to grow through dividends, CWC advanced US$1 million into the programme.

CWC plans to invest US$1 billion in multiple Caribbean territories as part of its business strategy to revolutionise ICT delivery in the region over the next three years.
