NBC: Impeachment ‘Dam’ could break Thursday

NEW YORK, NY – DECEMBER 14: People protest outside of the Fox News Channel headquarters to demand the resignation of President Donald Trump after accusations of sexual assault have re-surfaced against him on December 14, 2017 in New York City. The Democrats’ long desire to move forward with impeachment faces a moment of truth Thursday when Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire testifies before the House Intelligence Committee, NBC News reported.

“The dam could break on Thursday,” according to a senior aide – for a House Democrat that has not yet endorsed impeachment – to NBC News.

Democrats, while working to build their case for impeachment of President Donald Trump since he was elected, have held off pulling the trigger, but the reports of the president talking to Ukraine about their dealings with former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter might be the tipping point for official impeachment proceedings in the Democratic-led House.

“If this isn’t the moment, then what is?” an aide of a Democrat pushing impeachment told NBC News.

DNI Maguire’s reluctance to deliver an intelligence community whistleblower’s complaint against President Trump will be brought before the House.

“That’s independent grounds to file articles of impeachment,” Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., told NBC News. “That relates to this ongoing obstruction and stonewalling.”

Even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who has held back impeachment calls because it would be something President Trump would campaign on, is now talking about the impeachment movement entering a “whole new stage,” according to the report.

“The current whistleblowing allegations, however, are even worse,” lawyers George Conway and Neal Katyal argued in an op-ed in The Washington Post. “Unlike the allegations of conspiracy with Russia before the 2016 election, these concern Trump’s actions as president, not as a private citizen, and his exercise of presidential powers over foreign policy with Ukraine.

“Moreover, with Russia, at least there was an attempt to get the facts through the Mueller investigation; here the White House is trying to shut down the entire inquiry from the start — depriving not just the American people, but even congressional intelligence committees, of necessary information.”Related Stories:
