Jamaica to host inaugural Caribbean mayor’s conference

From Jamaica Observer

JAMAICA will host the inaugural Caribbean Conference of Mayors later this month.

The April 9 event is being held under the patronage of the Mayor of Kingston Senator Delroy H Williams and hosted by the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation. It will be held under the theme “Caribbean Cities: Honouring the Past, Embracing a Smart Future.”

The Caribbean Conference of Mayors will form part of the activities marking Kingston’s 145th anniversary as capital of Jamaica.

It is geared towards building associations and understanding among mayors and local government practitioners from across the Caribbean.

The conference will also focus on industrial opportunities with a special emphasis on building linkages amongst regional mayors, improving cities and promoting solidarity.

Results coming out of the discussions are expected to deepen the understanding of the structures and systems within various Caribbean territories and provide the platform to grow Caribbean cities and townships, the organisers said.
