Jamaica, Cayman Islands and St. Vincent and the Grenadines triumph in CFU Girls U-14 Challenge Series

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (August 11, 2019)—Jamaica, Cayman Islands and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are the winners of Groups 1, 2 and 4 of the CFU Girls’ Under-14 Challenge Series, while Group 5 will be decided after the finals matches on August 13.

Playing at home against Dominican Republic, Martinique and Bermuda, the young Reggae Girlz romped to victory with an unbeaten run and 9 points. Dominican Republic, with two wins and one loss were second with 6 points. Bermuda, 3 points, finished ahead of Martinique in the developmental tournament.

Over in the Cayman Islands, it was also a team of home-team advantage, with the Caymanians, one win and two draws, topped the table with 5 points ahead of St. Lucia, on account of goal differential. Curacao, 4 points, and Barbados, 1 point, rounded out the group.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines, playing in Group 4 in St. Kitts, earned bragging rights, also effecting an unbeaten run and 9 points.  St. Kitts and Nevis, 6 points, were second, ahead of Antigua and Barbuda, 3 points. Dominica, which went without a win, placed fourth.

Haiti leads Group 3 in Puerto Rico with 9 points and a runway 54 goals, with two more match days to go. The home team is in second place, ahead of Turks and Caicos Islands, Bonaire and Anguilla.

Haiti’s Walandjina Cyrique is the leading goal-scorer with 20 conversions. Jahzara Claxton, St. Kitts and Nevis, 11, and Fabiola Martinez, Puerto Rico, and Areka Hooper, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, are tied for third with 8 apiece, but Puerto Rico have a game in hand.
