Ireland: Medicinal cannabis and its uses

Governing medical cannabis

From Lexology

An insightful webinar is on the horizon as Mason Hayes & Curran will be hosting a live discussion on the regulatory landscape governing medicinal cannabis in Ireland.

The Irish government has passed the Misuse of Drugs (Prescription and Control of Supply of Cannabis for Medical Use) Regulations 2019, which allow the use of cannabis to treat persons with certain medical conditions under the care of a medical consultant.

As a result of this legislation, statistics indicate that up to 50,000 Irish patients could be prescribed cannabis within the next four years.

Medicinal cannabis and CBD products – navigating Ireland’s regulatory framework

The Irish government has passed the Misuse of Drugs (Prescription and Control of Supply of Cannabis for Medical Use) Regulations 2019, which allow the use of cannabis to treat persons with certain medical conditions under the care of a medical consultant. As a result of this legislation, statistics indicate that up to 50,000 Irish patients could be prescribed cannabis within the next four years.

This webinar examines the regulatory landscape governing medicinal cannabis and the changes that have been introduced to the regulatory framework in Ireland by the new regulations. In addition, we will examine the import and supply of medicinal cannabis into Ireland and the application process to the Health Products Regulation Authority.

We will also consider the regulation of cannabidiol (CBD) products and products containing CBD in several industries, including cosmetics and food and beverages. The webinar will provide legal insight for manufacturers navigating the regulatory issues arising with manufacturing and supplying these products and discuss some key risks that companies must be aware of, including those relating to advertising campaigns and claims being made about these products.

This talk is aimed at in-house counsel and those in private practice in the life sciences and products industries.
