Investigation ongoing into Cayman Islands Fire Service vehicle incident

The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS) continue to work closely with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) to ensure that the incident on Monday, 13 March 2017 involving a fire rescue vehicle is thoroughly investigated.

As the RCIPS continues to conduct their investigation, an internal investigation is also underway by Chief Fire Officer David Hails.

Until the investigations from both departments are complete, the Ministry is not in a position to provide further details as it could hinder the process.

The fire officer and non-fire personnel inside the fire rescue have been treated and released from the Health Services Authority (HSA).

The cyclist who was also involved in the incident is currently undergoing medical treatment at the HSA and is in stable condition.

“Thank you to all emergency personnel who responded to the scene on Monday,” Chief Hails said. “Our thoughts and sympathy go out to all those involved in the crash. Both uniform services will continue to work diligently to investigate the incident.”

Government Information Services will release more information as it becomes available.
